ATEN Presents New IP-based Cat 5 KVM Switches for SMBs

KH1508i and KH1516i KVM Over the NET™ Offer Remote Control of All Connected Multi-Platform Servers and Serial Devices

Taipei, Taiwan, November 21, 2007. ATEN International, leading designer and manufacturer of advanced connectivity solutions, today unveils the 8-Port and 16-Port Cat 5 KVM Over the NET™ - KH1508i and KH1516i of its ALTUSEN™ product line. These two IP-based KVM switches are cost-effective remote management solution for small and medium-sized companies with growing IT infrastructures. KH1508i / KH1516i allow IT administrators to control up to 8 or 16 directly connected multi-platform servers from a single console or up to 256 servers in a daisy chain installation.

"The more complex IT infrastructures get, the more important it is to centralize the systems management and provide administrators with the means for easily monitoring and controlling their installations", says Kevin Chen, President of ATEN International."ATEN's Cat 5 KVM Over the NET™ is an efficient and affordable management solution for companies with multi-platform server farms which require centralized and efficient administration. KH1508i and KH1516i offer BIOS-level control of all connected servers and serial devices over the LAN, WAN or even the Internet. The possibility to access multi-platform servers from off-site locations can effectively eliminate unnecessary travel and associated cost."

For administrative access, the KH1508i / KH1516i support up to 64 user accounts and up to 32 concurrent logins. Logged in users can communicate with each other or take exclusive control of the KVM functions through the message board feature. Shared access allows one local and one remote administrator via IP to simultaneously control the servers. Additionally, the Panel Array mode function permits multisession viewing of up to 8 or 16 on-screen window displays letting administrators monitor and control multiple servers at the same time.

KH1508i / KH1516i feature the RJ-45 connectors and Cat 5 (or higher) cable connection that allows signals to travel up to 40 meters and maintain an excellent video quality of up to 1280 x 1024 pixels. Furthermore, the Cat 5 cable connection also reduces the cable bulk in server rooms. Utilizing various KVM adapter cables for the final linkup, the KH1508i / KH1516i permit any combination of PCs, Macs, Sun servers, and serial devices to coexist on the installation.

KH1508i / KH1516i offer advanced security features such as password protection, the latest encryption technologies and the Auto Scan function for monitoring user-selected computers. LEDs at the front panel of the KVM switches indicate the station's position while port names are automatically reconfigured in the OSD when the station sequence changes.

About KVM Switches-An Essential Server Management Device

A KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch is an advanced, hardware-based solution that allows centralized access to multiple computers easily and conveniently from a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. A KVM switch is useful in an extensive range of environments, suitable for SOHO users, small and medium businesses, and large corporations. Fundamentally, a KVM switch allows server rooms and data centers to optimize rack space in the IT environment, reducing costs and the clutter of keyboards, monitors and mice. Additional benefits include savings in energy consumption, server racks, cabinets, and floor space. Since a KVM switch provides access to a number of computers from a central location, IT professionals are no longer running from one server to the next, thereby streamlining workflow and increasing productivity. To meet the ever-developing needs of the globalized economy and the Internet, KVM solutions now have over-IP functionality for remote management capability that better fulfills the demands of corporations who need to manage multiple server rooms worldwide.
